Taiwanese Americans urge Olympics opening boycott

A score of Taiwanese American groups are calling on US President George W. Bush to boycott the opening ceremony of the Beijing Olympics.

Leaders of the groups said if Bush were to attend the event, he would be viewed as what they called "endorsing China's appalling policies toward Tibet and Taiwan."

The Taiwanese American groups said several European leaders had announced that they would boycott the opening ceremony. They also urged Bush to make a similar announcement immediately.
