Taiwan, China to resume talks in Taipei end of year

Now that the Beijing Olympics have drawn to a close, Taiwan and China are making plans to resume talks in Taipei at the end of the year.

Taiwan's Mainland Affairs Council said Wednesday that it will invite the chairman of China's Association for Relations Across the Taiwan Strait Chen Yunlin to come to Taiwan for the talks. Chen represents the Chinese government in the absence of official ties between Taiwan and China.

Chen will meet with his counterpart, Chairman Chiang Pin-kun of Taiwan's Straits Exchange Foundation.

The talks will cover direct cross-strait shipping and cargo flights on a charter basis, as well as economic and cultural exchanges.
