First animal ambulance hit the road

The very first animal ambulance has hit the road in Taiwan.

The Life Caring and Animal Rescue Organization Taiwan introduced the ambulance on Friday. The group also urged drivers to give the vehicle, which is green with yellow flashing lights, the right of way

The animal protection group said that in the past, animal rescue vehicles were not allowed to have sirens, and precious time was often wasted in traffic.

After the group's lobbying, the government approved regulations that outline special equipment and display requirements for animal ambulances.

Although the animal ambulance is still not allowed to have a siren or run the red light, the rescue group said the regulations are a big step forward in terms of animal rights in Taiwan.
