Critics say that Taiwanese director Leon Dai's social drama "No Puedo Vivir Sin Ti", or "I Can't Live Without You", could win top honors at Taiwan's Golden Horse Film Awards.
The Golden Horse Awards are considered the Chinese-language Oscars. This year's ceremony is set to take place on Saturday night in Taipei.
Leon Dai's emotionally charged movie is a favorite in the best picture category. it's based on the true story of a diver's desperate fight for custody of his daughter.
The film will be competing in a rich and varied field that includes a romantic drama -- "Like A Dream"; an art-house picture called "Face"; and two black comedies: "Cow" and "Crazy Racer."
The Golden Horse Awards are broadcast by Chinese language channels in countries as far away as Canada. While they are styled on the US Academy Awards, the winners are decided by a jury along the lines of the Cannes Film Festival.
