Today in History

On this day in 1924, the first Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade was held in New York City.

On this day in 1930, the "Wushe Incident" broke out in central Taiwan when a group of aboriginal citizens launched a rebellion against Japanese rule, killing 134 Japanese. Hundreds of aborigines were also killed in the fighting and subsequent reprisals.

On this day in 1971, the Soviet space program's Mars 2 orbiter released a descent module. It malfunctioned and crashed, but it was nonetheless the first man-made object to reach the surface of Mars.
