Saint Lucia is an island country located in the eastern Caribbean Sea. The ambassador of Saint Lucia Ambassador Hubert Emmanuel said agriculture is an important industry for Saint Lucia as it has to satisfy the demand of the growing tourism sector.

Saint Lucia is not only self-sufficient in the production of many fruits and vegetables but exports them to other countries as well. Since 2010, the banana industry has been threatened by black sigatoka, a leaf-spot disease of bananas, and Taiwan has been helping the farmers fight black sigatoka in Saint Lucia, thereby guiding farmers in implementing disease control measures and restoring capacity back to the banana industry in Saint Lucia.
