President Tsai Ing-wen was in the city of Taichung Saturday to formally open the Presidential Office’s new base in central Taiwan.
Tsai said the facilities will be used as a work space and as a space for meeting visitors during her future trips to the region.
Tsai also promised central government assistance towards the construction of an exhibition hall for local manufacturers. She said that the space will give local industries a platform for international exchanges while also bringing in hospitality and other service sector jobs.
Tsai’s trip to Taichung comes just over a week after she traveled to Kaohsiung for the opening of the Presidential Office’s southern Taiwan base. Taiwan’s Central News Agency reported that the opening of the Kaohsiung office was part of a campaign to address a developmental imbalance between the north and the south of the island.
