Chiayi County magistrate Helen Chang told Radio Taiwan International on Wednesday that she wants to make her district known to potential overseas tourists for its tea.
Chang’s words came before she set off to Singapore and Vietnam to promote Chiayi. Her trip is the county’s first move to connect to Southeast Asian neighbors, in line with the government’s New Southbound policy.
Chang said her local government has sought to promote the area’s tea culture as a tourist attraction.
She also said that Chiayi County has sought to integrate its newly settled residents to appeal to mainland Chinese and international tourists.
