Taiwan held a successful Taiwan Expo in Malaysia this past weekend. The showcase of Taiwan’s top products and services saw nearly 20,000 visitors attend. There were nearly 600 business meetings during the three-day expo, generating some US$36 million in business opportunities.
The chairman of the Taiwan External Trade Development Council (TAITRA), James Huang, said that next year the expo will be held in Jakarta, New Dehli, Ho Chi Minh City, Bangkok and Kuala Lumpur. It will be the first time that Taiwan holds expos to showcase its products in India and Thailand.
“We talk about IT a lot. Our friends in India say IT represents India and Taiwan so I believe that there are many opportunities for cooperation between the IT industries in the two countries," said Huang.
The Taiwan Expos have proven to be a great way for Taiwan to engage with the ASEAN economic community. This year, the Taiwan Expos in Indonesia, Vietnam, the Philippines and Malaysia together saw nearly 100,000 visitors and over US$100 million in business opportunities. Some vendors even saw business partners they met at the expo in Indonesia travel to the expo in Malaysia to place orders.
