Police in Taiwan and Japan have joined forces to bust a drug-smuggling ring. Taiwan’s National Police Agency announced the bust at a press conference on Monday.
It took Japanese police five months to investigate and seize 480 kilograms of amphetamine in Ibaraki prefecture in late August after receiving a tip from Taiwan authorities in April. The seized drugs are worth NT$8 billion (US$266.6 million)… the largest amount since law enforcement authorities in the two countries began working together in 2016.
Authorities in Japan have arrested six Japanese suspects and one Chinese suspect in connection with the case. Another three suspects are still at large.
At Monday’s press conference, a Japanese police officer presented Taiwan police with a commendation for its cooperation and assistance.
