President Tsai Ing-wen says Taiwan will continue its cooperation with Belize in travel and tourism.
Tsai was speaking Tuesday while meeting the Central American country’s foreign minister, Wilfred Elrington.
Tsai said cooperation with Belize has been especially close over the past year. In September, Taiwan and Belize signed an agreement promising cooperation between the two nations’ police forces.
The president said Belize has been represented at many travel and food expos in Taiwan this year. She said tourism is an important industry for Belize, and hoped more people from Taiwan will visit the country.
Tsai also thanked Belize for supporting Taiwan’s participation in the international community. Belize is one of 20 countries that recognize Taiwan. At the UN General Assembly in September, Elrington called on the UN to treat Taiwan’s people based on the principles of fairness and justice.
