President Tsai Ing-wen says she trusts that the public will have confidence in the military’s defense capability and determination to defend the country after Friday’s joint exercises.

Tsai boarded the ROC Navy Kidd-class destroyer DDG-1801 at the Suao naval base on Friday to oversee a port defense drill.

The exercise was intended as a test of the military’s defense and rapid response capability at key naval ports.

To boost readiness in the event of an attack, the joint exercise involved the navy and air force, with ground forces supplying support. The drill simulated an attack from the air and sea, with enemy special forces seeking to take out the port of Suao.

The president praised the military for its demonstration of asymmetric operations and its defense of Taiwan’s waters.
