President Tsai Ing-wen on Thursday met three of Taiwan’s international award-winning bakers.
At the Presidential Office on Thursday, President Tsai Ing-wen held a private reception for Wang Peng-chieh, who in February was awarded the title of World Master Baker in Artistic Bread Making at the Masters de la Boulangerie in Paris. Also present were Chen Yu-chieh and Hsieh Chung-you, who also represented Taiwan at the competition.
Wang Peng-chieh won his coveted Master de la Boulangerie title for a nearly life-sized work, a bread sculpture of the Infernal General, one of the eight generals in a traditional Taiwanese temple parade troupe.
The president thanked the master bakers for not only bringing prestige to Taiwan’s baking but also for bringing Taiwanese culture to a wider international audience.
She also expressed her appreciation to the bakers’ gesture of contributing their prize money to relief efforts following a major earthquake in Hualien in February.
