A documentary on the later years of Taiwanese pitcher Wang Chien-ming’s baseball career will be featured at the upcoming Los Angeles Asian Pacific Film Festival (LAAPFF) in May. The documentary will hit theaters in San Francisco after its May 9 premiere at the festival.
LAAPFF presents a Grand Jury Award for Outstanding Asian Pacific international documentary and narrative features. “Late Life: The Chien-ming Wang Story” was nominated in that category. The film was directed by Taiwanese-Canadian filmmaker Frank W. Chen.
The film could be best described as a baseball version of the documentary Linsanity about Taiwanese-American NBA basketball player Jeremy Lin. It chronicled Wang’s last ditch effort to be recruited by a professional baseball team after a series of injuries disrupted his outstanding career in the major leagues.
