Renowned Cloud Gate Dance Theatre from Taiwan received accolades for their performance in Spain.
Founded by dance choreographer Lin Hwai-min in 1973, Cloud Gate was the first modern dance group to come out of Taiwan and Asia. The group is well known for their creative dance directions, as well as for telling stories that combines roots in Chinese mythology and folklore with a distinct modern sensibility.
In Spain, their final stop of their European tour, the dance group performed on Wednesday and Friday at Grec Festival de Barcelona. The group was also invited to Fundació Joan Miró, a local museum to teach some of their techniques. They taught local audience members how to breathe and move based on the art of Tai Chi.
Marko Daniel, the director of the museum, praised Cloud Gate as the best dancing group he’s ever seen. He said he appreciates the unique movements the dance troupe members were able to display to the local audience.
