President Tsai Ing-wen has encouraged Taiwan’s athletes to do their best as they prepare to head to the 18th Asian Games. The games will be held from August 18 to September 2 in Jakarta, Indonesia.
On Friday, Tsai visited the National Sports Training Center in Tsoying in southern Taiwan to cheer them on. Wearing a Taiwan team jacket with the words “Chinese Taipei,” Tsai urged athletes to give their best.
“I believe that you have made all the preparations for the [event in which you are competing]. Show fighting spirit, show the power of hard work, challenge yourself and let the world see Taiwan," said Tsai.
Tsai said the government has provided the team with all logistics support, including a chartered plane, rented apartments near the venue, and a medical team specializing in sports medicine.
Tsai said Taiwan stands together the most when athletes doing their best in global competitions. The president also said the Sports Administration has revised rules to provide athletes with better job placement after they finish their competitive career.
