The government will continue to support efforts to implement electric powertrains in motorcycles. That was the word from the Industrial Development Bureau on Wednesday.
Taiwan-based electric scooter maker Gogoro announced a plan to work with Yamaha to introduce electric powertrains to their models. The collaboration is the latest effort from local manufacturers to use electric powertrains and related technologies in future products.
The Industrial Development Bureau said Wednesday that they are happy to see local companies working to phase out gas-powered motorcycles from the market.
The bureau said that it has earmarked NT$572 million (US$18.6 million) to subsidize purchases of electric scooters, and the budget will increase again next year. The government’s goal is for all scooters on sale to be electric-powered by 2035.
