About 6,000 overseas Taiwanese from different parts around the world returned to take part in the 107th National Day celebrations of the Republic of China on Wednesday.
Returning overseas Taiwanese, holding the national flag, take a group photo in front of the Presidential Office, the venue for the National Day celebrations. They are excited about the celebrations and many of them praised President Tsai Ing-wen’s performance over the past two years.
The venue was not open to the public until 8:00 am. But a couple who have lived in Los Angeles for over 50 years said they arrived at 6:00 am to see the national flag.
One woman surnamed Cheng has lived in California for 26 years. Cheng said Taiwan is like Silicon Valley, where she lives. Taiwan will be accepted in the international community as long as the country is good enough, she said.
A number of Thai students of Taiwanese descent also took part in the celebrations. They are in Taiwan to attend a workshop sponsored by the Overseas Community Affairs Council. One student said she wants to go to college here because Taiwan boasts good education and good environment.
