Taiwan Banana Research Institute was founded in 1970 to promote the quality of banana production, improve the quality of banana and reduce the cost of production of bananas in Taiwan.
Banana is the most important fruit for export in Taiwan, grown under the subtropical weather, Taiwan’s banana has a flavor superior to those produced in tropical countries and a large quantity of Taiwan’s bananas has been exported to Japan in the last few decades. The banana industry in Taiwan has been affected due to the competition of bananas from the Philippines. How can Taiwan’s bananas beat the competition? What are some contributing factors that affect the banana production in Taiwan? Let’s hear from Dr.Chao Chih-ping, a banana expert and the Director of Taiwan Banana Research Institute. Dr.Chao obtained his PhD in plant pathology at Lousiana State University, USA and master’s degree at Illinois University studying plant pathology.
