Dr,Chao Chi-ping, the director of Taiwan Banana Research Institute, has been devoted to the research of bananas for many decades. Dr.Chao Chih-ping has helped many foreign governments in the area of banana disease fighting, management and production. He has helped fight black sigatoka, a leaf spot disease in bananas in Saint Lucia and he said the production of bananas in Saint Lucia today has increased by 40% of the total volume in 2010 when the banana industry was devastated by black sigatoka. Dr.Chao has also been invited by the Australian government to help them fight TR4 Panama disease along with an expert from South Africa
In this week’s edition, Dr.Chao Chih-ping shares with us his views on international cooperation and how he has helped fight banana diseases in other countries. Dr.Chao Chih-ping is the Director of Taiwan Banana Research Institute. Dr.Chao obtained his PhD in plant pathology at Lousiana State University, USA and master’s degree at Illinois University studying plant pathology.
