A United Nations human rights group will continue monitoring the situation facing the jailed Taiwanese NGO worker Lee Ming-che.
Lee was sentenced by China last year to five years in prison for “subverting state power.” He is currently locked up in a jail in Hunan province.
At the invitation of the UN Working Group on Enforced or Involuntary Disappearances, Lee’s wife gave a speech at a human rights symposium in Brussels on Wednesday. Lee’s rescue team said she had briefed the group on the inhumane conditions facing her husband.
She told the group that her husband is still unable to communicate with the outside world and that there are other health concerns too.
The rescue group accused China of cruel and inhumane treatment because the prison refused to take the warm clothes that his wife had sent him.
