Mid-Autumn Festival is coming, which means moon cakes will soon be hitting the shelves. This seasonal delicacy is typically full of sugar and fat. But nutritionists from National Yang Ming University Hospital have come up with high-protein, low-fat moon cakes available in green tea and purple potato flavors.
The filling of the cakes is made from soy powder with no added sugar, making them especially good for seniors or people with diabetes.
In Taiwan, barbecuing has become a pastime associated with Mid-Autumn Festival and the Suao fishermen’s association in Yilan County is offering special deals on a set containing scallops, shrimps, fish and squid. The set costs around NT$700 (US$23) and also comes with the association’s special zero-oil shrimp crackers.
