Time Traveler: Democracy activist Professor Peng Ming-min

In 1964, at the height of Taiwan's White Terror Era, prominent scholar Professor Peng Ming-min and his two students – Hsieh Tsong-min and Wei Ting-chao – secretly printed a document entitled "Manifesto of Formosan Self-Salvation", which called for democracy and human rights.

It was a time when the Republic of China government in Taiwan, led by Chiang Kai-shek, still held a United Nations seat that represented the whole of China, despite the fact that the People's Republic of China had already been in existence for more than 15 years.

Before Professor Peng printed the manifesto, he was a rising star in Chiang's government, and was appointed advisor to Chiang's UN delegation. But after attending UN meetings, Professor Peng decided to defy Chiang.

Tune in to Time Traveler on January 4 for Professor Peng's story.
