On the Line: Taiwan’s Overseas Medical Mission

Changhua Christian Hospital (CCH) in central Taiwan is a 1600-bed medical center and a teaching hospital receiving about 5,000 patients daily.

Taiwan’s health care sector is among the best in the world and Changhua Christian Hospital has been providing medical assistance to countries in Africa, South Pacific and the Carribean since 2004. Apart from sending medical teams, CCH also provides training to doctors, biomedical engineers and lab technicians.

Dr.Nina Kao Hsiao-ling, the CEO of the Overseas Medical Mission Center at Changhua Christian Hospital said that they have suspended the long term medical mission as it is hard to find doctors who wish to leave Taiwan and work overseas for a year. Instead, they now concentrate on the short term mission which is more cost effective and efficient.
